VFL-650 - VISUAL FAULT LOCATOR

This is a compact, stylus pen style, tool which is of great support in daily activities.
A VFL (Visual Fault Locator) is a 650 nm (bright red) laser source which can be injected into the fiber under test. 
Although attenuation of the fiber at 650 nm is fairly high, the light can reach ranges up to 10 km (10 mW VFL version).
This tool can be used to identify fibers, to locate macrobends or fiber breaks, or to visually check losses in fiber splices.

VFL650 is available with 5mW (VFL650A) or 10 mW (VFL-650B) output power.
It has standard 2.5 mm optical interface (SC, FC, ST, E2000 etc...) and can operate with continuous light or 2/10 Hz pulsed light.
Long battery life with 2xAAA alkaline cells (not included)



OFI-3 - OPTICAL FIBER IDENTIFIER

An Optical Fiber Identifier is a great tool for any engineer working with optical networks. Its operation is based on the principle that any optical fiber, when bended, suffers from some power loss, i.e. some of the light comes out.
The optical fiber identifier, by applying a slight bend on the fiber (with no permanent loss when test is over), can 'read' if such fiber is live or blind. This works on 250 micron fibers, buffered 900 micron fibers (pigtails) and even on 2 mm fibers (jumper cables), assuming the jacket is light in color (yellow or orange).
This greatly helps locating fibers without interrupting the circuit.

OFI-3 is a battery operated tool which can measure:
- direction of data flow (left to right or viceversa)
- estimation of power by LED bar visual identification
- modulation of the light (270, 1000, 2000 Hz)

The tool comes with adapters for 250, 900 and 2000 micron cables.

EFI-250X - FERRULE INSPECTOR 

Ferrule Inspector is a microscope specifically designed to inspect the optical connector's end face.
It is of common knowledge that a good deal of optical network faults is caused by dirty connector end faces.
Dirt can be caused by different factors:

- fingerprints
- dust or debris
- polishing residuals

A dirty connector can show an insertion loss significantly higher than standard one, up to 2/3 dB instead of 0.3 dB (for SM connectors).

EFI-250 is an easy to operate handheld electronic microscope. It comes with a set of probes for 2.5 and 1.25 mm ferrules (SC/ST/FC and LC/MU respectively) and with an extra set of thru-probes which are useful to check end faces of connectors though an optical adapter. This helps checking connectors installed into an optical sub-rack from the outside.
